CLASS LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS AND DRESS CODE
ATTENDANCE POLICY
*Students are not permitted to wear colored leotards until all missed classes are made up.
Missed classes should be made up by taking a lower level.
Creative Dance
Ages 3-4. This class is designed to develop gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and flexibility in addition to nurturing creativity.
*Black or Pink Leotard, Pink Leather Ballet Slippers, and white socks. Hair should be neatly secured
in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.
Pre-Ballet
Ages 5-6. This class is a prelude to formal ballet instruction. Students will develop a foundation for ballet technique in a positive learning environment. Exercises will introduce students to the ballet barre to develop correct posture and technique. Students will begin center exercises that will develop flexibility, balance, and strength as well as traveling steps, which will encourage development of gross motor skills. Students will begin to learn the French vocabulary, movement expression, and proper ballet etiquette in a non-competitive atmosphere.

bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.
B3
Ages 7-9. This class begins the first level of the graded-level ballet syllabus.
Students will be learning the basic ballet positions, the progression of a standard ballet barre, and learning the French vocabulary that defines all ballet steps. The student moves into beginning centre work, away from the support of the ballet barre.
*Black, Pink, White Leotard with Pink Tights and Leather Ballet Slippers. Hair should be neatly
secured in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.
Level C1
This class focuses on the second level of the graded-level ballet syllabus and continues to focus on the basic positions and progression of the ballet barre. Students will increase the amount of centre work away from the support of the barre as well as introduce the student to exercises for pre-pointe work. Students will be taught to focus on slow repetition and there will be an emphasis on quality over quantity.
*Black, Pink, White, or Blue Leotard with Pink Tights and Leather Ballet Slippers. Hair should be neatly secured in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.
Level C8
This class focuses on the third level of the graded-level ballet syllabus and continues to focus on the basic positions and progression of the ballet barre. Students will increase the amount of centre work away from the support of the barre as well as introduce more pointe work. Students will be taught to focus on slow repetition and there will be an emphasis on quality over quantity.
*Black, White, Pink, Blue, Purple. Pink Leather Ballet Slippers. Ribbons on Flat Shoes and Pointe Shoes
Level D/E
This class focuses on the intermediate levels of the graded-level ballet syllabus. Students who have achieved proper technique will qualify to take pointe, variations, and pas de deux classes. This pre-professional level will also have many performance opportunities. Performance is an integral part of a dancer’s training at the Patterson School of Ballet.
*Leotard with Pink Tights, Ribbons on flat shoes, Pointe shoes will be necessary. Skirts may be
worn only for variations classes. Hair should be neatly secured in a bun with wisps sprayed or
pinned back.
Adult
Adult classes are a great way to challenge your mind and stretch your body. This class will be for intermediate through advanced adult students and will focus on building strength and flexibility using classical ballet as the vehicle for change.
