CLASS LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS AND DRESS CODE

ATTENDANCE POLICY

*Students are not permitted to wear colored leotards until all missed classes are made up.

Missed classes should be made up by taking a lower level.

Students should:       Arrive at least 15 minutes before class with hair neatly secured in a bun. Please secure all

wisps with spray and pins/barrettes. 

                       Be encouraged to use the restroom prior to entering the classroom.

Creative Dance

 

Ages 3-4. This class is designed to develop gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and flexibility in addition to nurturing creativity.

 

*Black or Pink Leotard, Pink Leather Ballet Slippers, and pink tights. Hair should be neatly secured

in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.

Level A2/B3

 

Ages 7-9. This class begins the first level of the graded-level ballet syllabus.

Students will be learning the basic ballet positions, the progression of a standard ballet barre, and learning the French vocabulary that defines all ballet steps. The student moves into beginning centre work, away from the support of the ballet barre.

 

LEVEL A2: Black, Pink, White Leotard (No Skirts Attached) with Pink Tights and Leather Ballet Slippers. 

 

 

LEVEL B3: Black, Pink, White, or Blue Leotard (No Skirts Attached) with Pink Tights and Leather Ballet Slippers.

 

Hair should be neatly secured in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.

 

Level C

 

This class focuses on the second/third level of the graded-level ballet syllabus and continues to focus on the basic positions and progression of the ballet barre. Students will increase the amount of centre work away from the support of the barre as well as continue exercises to expand their knowledge of pointe work. Students will be taught to focus on slow repetition and there will be an emphasis on quality over quantity.

 

*Black, Pink, White, Purple, or Blue Leotard (No Skirts Attached), with Pink Tights and Leather Ballet Slippers. Black Character Shoes are required. Hair should be neatly secured in a bun with wisps sprayed or pinned back.

Level D

This class focuses on the third/fourth level of the graded-level ballet syllabus and continues to focus on the progression of the ballet barre. Students will increase the amount of center work away from the support of the barre as well as increase the amount of pointe work. The emphasis of the class will be focused on slow repetition while advancing the artistry and musicality of the students.

 

*Black, White, Pink, Blue, Purple, Red leotards may be worn for class.

Pink Leather Ballet Slippers. Ribbons on Flat Shoes and Pointe Shoes, Black Character Shoes are required.

Level E

This class focuses on the fourth/fifth level of the graded-level ballet syllabus and continues to focus on the progression of the ballet barre. Students will increase the amount of center work away from the support of the barre as well as increase the amount of pointe work. The emphasis of the class will be focused on speed and musicality, while advancing the artistry of the students.

 

Any color leotards may be worn for class. Pink Leather/Canvas Ballet Slippers. Ribbons on Flat Shoes and Pointe Shoes, Black Character Shoes are required.

Daytime Program

We are beginning a daytime program for serious students with flexible schedules. This program is available to students currently enrolled at the Patterson School of Ballet or students from other schools who want to supplement their training. Students enrolled in evening classes are eligible for a reduced rate for the daytime program.

Character Class (Levels C/D/E Only)

Character dancing is a selected borrowing of folk dance movements and stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance to provide divertissements for story ballets. It is a specialization taught as part of the classical ballet curriculum.

 

Character Shoes, Character Skirt (knee length)

Adult

 

Adult classes are a great way to challenge your mind and stretch your body. This class will be for intermediate through advanced adult students and will focus on building strength and flexibility using classical ballet as the vehicle for change.

 

Boys/Men

 

(Ages 3-7)

 

White T-Shirt, Black Shorts, White or Black Leather Ballet Shoes with White Socks.

 

(Ages 8-10)

 

White T-Shirt, Black Tights, Black or White Leather Ballet Shoes (with White Socks)

 

(Ages 11 and Up)

 

White or Black T-Shirt, Black or White Tights, Dance-Belt, Black or White Ballet Shoes (with White Socks)
